If you are unsure about the direction our country should take in Afghanistan, check out Bill Moyers’ position (PBS, Oct. 30).
He challenged Congress and the American people to examine the premise that “fixing Afghanistan,” i.e., sending thousands more young people and spending an estimated $65 billion per year, will destroy the jihadist threat.
If the United States really believes this is true, he recommends bringing back the draft and spreading the death and suffering to all classes in the country, not just to the volunteers today who can’t find jobs, can’t afford college, or who need health care.
Bill Moyers’ words are strong, perhaps, but they encourage us to question our real commitment to continuing this war.
