An man who applied for a job at a Sahuarita coffee shop, giving his correct name and phone number on the application, stole the tip jar from the drive-through window on his way out, police said.

Brian Babb, 21, was cited Oct. 13 for theft in an incident that took place March 6 at Sertino’s Coffee & Ice Cream.

After filing a job application that included his phone number and other information, Babb walked outside and, according to a store employee, took the money in the tip jar at the drive-through window, according to a police report.

A store employee then called Babb, using the number on the job application, and said if he returned the tip money police would not be called. Babb did not do so and police were called. The case took time to investigate because Babb was not arrested at the scene and was difficult to locate for questioning. He was homeless during part of this period, living in an underpass at Interstate 19 north of Duval Mine Road.
