Firefighters’ safety

Published: Saturday, October 31, 2009 8:05 PM MST

Editor:

It recently has come to my attention that we have a deplorable situation here in Green Valley.

I believe that it was Dale Carnegie who once said, “Take my Plants, My Ships, My Mines, My Railroads, yes take all of these but leave me my personnel and in a few years I will have them all back. He understood the value people are to a successful operation, obviously our Fire District Board does not.

I am talking about is the fact that our dedicated firefighters have not had a pay increase in salary for the last three years.

The Fire Board voted to spend precocious amounts of monies on two new fire stations and floated the bonds to start the construction at the same time denying our firefighters a decent wage.

We who are retired here in Green Valley have had an increase in our Social Security checks of about 8 percent over the last three years; yet our firefighters have had to struggle to get by and support their families with the same income since 2005.

If you feel that this inexcusable situation should be corrected, call Mr. Ed Clarke chairman of the Fire District at 648-2530 or Chief Davis at 625-9400.
