BusinessSonora Lung Care Opens in GV
By Mark Bollin, Special to the Green Valley NewsLike many before them, Ester Szmutni (right) and husband, Steve, moved to Green Valley after researching several areas to live and work. As a certified COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Specialist and a licensed Respiratory Therapist, the Green Valley area seemed the perfect place to start her new business - Sonora Lung Care. Born in Budapest, Hungary, Szmutni arrived in Los Angeles in 1972, where she honed her skills in busy hospitals. Upon arriving in Green Valley in 2006, she was able to continue her vocation at University Medical Center. It was there, while performing a required Pulmonary Function Test on herself, that she found that she was borderline COPD. Szmutni immediately launched herself into the study and research of COPD. She also became a certified COPD Specialist by the American Lung Association. After years of helping patients deal with respiratory problems, Szmutni knew there was something missing. “Respiratory care is generally a re-active state. I knew that in order to best help those prone to respirator problems, or those trying to deal with COPD, I had to get into a pro-active educational mode,” Szmutni said. As a certified COPD lecturer she often delivers her expertise to groups throughout the nation, and will be delivering several COPD lectures in Green Valley in the coming months. Regarding her new business, “I fill an important void between those whose respiratory conditions have been stabilized, but need continued rehabilitation, consultation, and education.” Szmutni said. As a result, Sonora Lung Care provides continuing rehabilitation programs that include proper breathing techniques, coughing techniques, monitored exercise, counseling, life style adjustments, and diet/exercise programs. Sonora Lung Care is in the Green Valley Village, Building 5, Suite 36-2. Phone: (520) 437-5148
