Eclipse Clinical Research looking for volunteers

Eclipse Clinical Research has opened in Green Valley and is looking for volunteers willing to participate in medical research studies.

The clinical research site, located at 75 W. Calle De Las Tiendas, suite 117B, features two on-site physicians, a psychologist and a nurse practitioner, said owner and manager Felice Anderson.

Eclipse is currently seeking volunteers to participate in studies for arthritis, anemia and birth control. In the next few weeks Eclipse will be starting studies for high blood pressure, diabetes, ankle sprains, and rheumatoid arthritis, she said.

Anderson, who lives in Rancho Sahuarita and has been working in the field of clinical research for 6 years, was inspired to open the clinic when she noticed that many Green Valley and Sahuarita residents were driving up to Tucson for their studies.

“I know a lot of people will benefit from having a clinic in the area,” she said. “We’re the only independent clinical research center in Green Valley.”

Clinical studies can be sponsored by individual physicians, medical institutions, pharmaceutical companies or federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, Anderson explained. A person stays under the care of their primary doctor for everything except the study. Medical care and medications are provided to participants for free and patients may be compensated for their time and travel.

There are many benefits to participating in clinical trials, including gaining access to new research treatments before they are widely available, Anderson said.

“Every medication available for purchase in the United States today has gone through studies like these,” she said.
