Looking for a special Mother’s Day gift?

Published: Tuesday, May 6, 2008 10:33 PM MST

It’s almost Mother’s Day and TALGV recommends a wonderful new pet to celebrate the occasion. Available are lovable cats and dogs of all sizes and descriptions… one (or more) that is sure to fit right into your family.

Lulu 2

Two wonderful people found Lulu 2, and her sister, Rosa, near an abandoned house by the Frontage Road in Tumacacori. Lulu and Rosa stayed with them for a week, but since they already had two older dogs, they felt that two more (especially puppies!) were more than they needed.

Lulu and Rosa are 8-week-old, terrier mixes. Lulu is almost all black with a white teardrop shape on her forehead. Both of these pups are just as sweet, smart, and good-natured as can be.

Despite their tender ages, they both have been very good in the housebreaking department, having been let out three times a day to go potty, with only one “break” during the night.

They’ve been left alone for up to three hours during the day and have been pretty well mannered, so with each passing week, they’ll be easier and easier to train.

If you’re ready for life with a puppy, Lulu and Rosa are ready for life with you!

Scout

If you don’t have burros, Scout might be just the guy for you! He’s a 5-year-old, black, brown, and white, Aussie/heeler mix who lived with an older couple until they could no longer care for him.

A friend of theirs took Scout in, but he had several burros, and, being the herd dog that Scout is, he immediately began doing his job! Unfortunately, the burros weren’t too thrilled with that, and Scout’s new owners were afraid that he was going to get hurt.

In the two weeks that Scout was with them, they all got along just fine (another dog, a couple, and their two kids), and they said that Scout was very loving, playful, good company, and a good friend. So if that’s what you’re looking for, you’ve certainly come to the right place!

Cheena

Cheena’s mom passed away late last year, and her family couldn’t take Cheena (or her younger friend, Sammy) to live with them, so they are hoping that she can find another home where she’ll fit in just like she did before.

Like some calicos, Cheena is a bit shy with strangers at first, but once she gets to know you and is comfortable with her surroundings, she is very verbal and friendly.

Cheena is a beautiful, refined, 10-year-old, calico lady, who is in great shape for “middle middle” age (like lots of people in Green Valley!).

She’s never been around kids, so the thinking is that she would really do best in a home with an older person or couple, so that she can share lots of quiet time just being with each other, watching TV and reading the newspaper (Cheena can help with THAT really well!).

Kaydee

Kaydee and Kaycee (possibly her brother) were heartlessly left together in a cat carrier with no food, water, or litter, much less any indication of their ages (we’re guessing 5), names, or other history. Thankfully, they were found after not too long a time and here they are at TALGV, wondering what happened to their lives.

They have obviously been well cared for in the past. Kaydee has been spayed and Kaycee is neutered, and they are very sweet, calm, and loving felines - they’re just confused and a bit frightened right now.

They look like twins (that’s why everyone figures they may be siblings) - they’re black and white and just about the same size except that at 13 pounds, Kaydee weighs a bit less than Kaycee.

Since they’ve been through so much together, it would be positively lovely if they could stay with each other when they go to a new home. That doesn’t always happen, but Kaydee will be crossing her toes anyway!

For more information about these and other lovable pets waiting for their own, special home, visit The Animal League of Green Valley at 1600 W. Duval Mine Road, call 625-3170, or visit www.talgv.org.

If you can spare a three- or four-hour block of time each week, please contact TALGV to find out about the many volunteer opportunities available. As many volunteers have left our area for the summer, we are currently in need of dog handlers, cat caregivers, foster homes, and men who can help us lift and move heavy items.
